The Vision and Art of J.D. Geüss

J.D. Geüss | Mixed Media Artist | Myrtle Beach
"Creation is not a committee meeting, nor is it a search for consensus; it is a solitary act of presence."
"Art is how you make a thing alive. I do not stay with one tool or one way of working. I let each piece grow as it wants to grow, whether it's abstract, Avant-garde, geometric, or viscerally naïve."

"I create abstract art and write near Myrtle Beach now, but Pennsylvania is where my journey began. As a boy, I aspired to pursue the arts, yet there was little encouragement for it. Instead, I ventured down a hard, analytical path, working as a chemist, then in IT, and ultimately as a consultant for big corporations. After facing a brush with death, everything shifted. No one puts off their true work after such experiences. I stopped waiting and began to embrace my passion for the abstract and the Avant-garde."

"An artist should not be confined to a single medium. The surface is not merely a background; it is an integral part of the piece itself. An idea dictates how it must be expressed. Each work of art emerges in its own unique way. I utilize heavy acrylic and oil on museum-quality canvas, or ink on paper, as well as cardboard, wood, metal, and glass. I choose materials based on what the vision demands. When I embrace the raw texture of the material, there are no rules, no boundaries— just the freedom to create."

"An artist discovers alone and asks no permission, much like the current carving its own path through stone. It might present as raw, visceral, naïve expression, or as an intricate, layered matrix of fractured systems where the edges completely dissolve. I do not force the current into a preconceived mold just to maintain a predictable, commercial signature. I just create my art, and I do not have to explain it to anyone."
